The 48-Hour Follow-Up: Turning New Contacts into Conversations
The value of a new connection fades fast. A simple routine for following up within two days — while they still remember you.
You had a great conversation, swapped cards, and promised to stay in touch. A week later, you’ve both forgotten the details. The fix isn’t more effort — it’s better timing.
Why 48 hours?
Within a day or two, the other person still remembers the conversation and the context is fresh for you too. Wait longer and your message competes with everyone else they met.
The routine
Same day: capture. Scan the card before it goes in a pocket. Add the lead source and a one-line note about what you discussed — a project, a problem, a shared contact.
Next morning: sort. Look at the day’s contacts and group them:
- Act now — they asked for something specific.
- Nurture — interesting, but no immediate need.
- Keep on file — good to know, no follow-up planned.
Within 48 hours: reach out. For everyone in the first two groups, send a short, specific message:
Great to meet you at the expo yesterday. You mentioned your team is reworking its event lead process — here’s the short guide I promised.
Reference the note you took. Specific beats polished.
Make it easy on yourself
PeriScan puts call, email and WhatsApp actions right on each contact, so reaching out from the contact list takes seconds. If your team runs on Salesforce, synced records give everyone visibility into who has followed up.
One more thing
Follow up even when you have nothing to sell. A useful link, an introduction or a simple “good to meet you” builds the relationship that pays off later.
